I find it very strange to acknowledge this, but I’m just gonna go ahead and do it. The other day I woke up, and the first thing I felt, the first thing I thought about, was the hate that was filling every ventricle of my heart and soul.   And I didn’t like that shit at all. Waking up with hate in my heart is not something I want to practice.

Not because I’m pretending I don’t get angry. I sure the fuck do. But hate doesn’t get to wake me and fill me up, that’s a Daddy’s job.  There are things happening in this world that make anger feel completely justified. There are people and situations that can bring out feelings in me that are anything but peaceful. And if you are on the right side of American history, you feel it too.

But waking up with hate?  Having hate waiting to greet me first thing in the morning- well, not if I can help it. I’ve come a long way from growing up in a home where it was apparent my own father had hate for me.  I didn’t welcome it then, but I had no options. Now I do and I don’t welcome it now and I certainly don’t welcome it in my bed.

Before I introduce any hateful shit to my brain, I’d at least like to make it through my morning routine: coffee, prayer, meditation, and birds. Yup, them nosey little hummingbirds.

That little routine usually works as a preventative for a lot of things and sets a tone for my day.

But so does the first thought of the day.  Do you have a regular, everyday first thought when you wake up? These days, mine is usually: “Act like you’re still sleeping. Elizabeth Taylor is just waiting to pounce on you.”

Every morning, my little Chihuahua does this thing where she can hardly contain herself. She crawls up by my face and tries to play it cool, but she’s got way too much puppy energy bottled up inside that tiny, adorable body.

If I so much as acknowledge her or open my eyes all the way, I might as well get my ass out of bed! Because she will pounce on my face and doesn’t stop until I get up and get them their “Morning Snack.”

If it weren’t so annoying, it’d be fuckin’ adorable.  Okay, fine. It’s fuckin’ adorable.

But on this particular morning, the puppies weren’t even my first thought. Instead, I woke up thinking:

“I hate him. And I hate what the Republicans have allowed him to do to our country. They are all complicit in this attack on our nation.”

And that bothered me. Not because I believe anger is always wrong. Not because I suddenly stopped caring about what is happening to my country. But because before Elizabeth Taylor could even launch her tiny Chihuahua paws and body at my face, hate had already gotten there first. I don’t want to start my days with hate in my heart.

How are you waking up these days?  Are you even sleeping well? Cause it seems like some of us(a) are sleeping through this whole overthrow of our country.

I mean, WAKE THE FUCK UP AMERICAN HOMOS. BETTA RECOGNIZE- All of our lives are on the line! Even you gay republicans-  if you keep sleeping on their abhorrent and traitorous actions you are putting the noose around your own neck.

I think it’s hard not to have hate or anger fill every pore of our red-blooded American bodies- what they have done and continue to do is atrocious.  How do we watch them destroy the WH, the Kennedy Center, the Reflection Pool -not to mention what they did on Jan  6 and not get mad?  They attacked and killed cops on that day.

So, when does America wake the fuck up? When do you wake the fuck up and realize that no one is coming to save us(a), it’s up to each one of us(a).

It’s you, it’s me, and they/them and all of us(a).

Or ya’ll just gonna keep hitting the snooze button thinking that saving us(a) is someone else’s problem? Someone else is gonna do it, right? Or do we snooze until the puppy pounces on your face or possibly until you lose your right to be free to love who you want? Or lose your access to clean water, food and healthcare?

Every single one of our lives is at risk. We need to start acting like it. I am going to vow to myself  (ewe, no not for chastity), but that waking up with hate in my heart for the others who would take away our rights at life, liberty, and our pursuit of is not the way for me.

I choose love.  I choose love for you, our country, God, and freedom.  If we wake up and hate is consuming our hearts – the evil they try to spread wins.  That doesn’t mean you take this sitting on both your hands.

What it means is that when we all have to take a stand and fight for our freedoms that we do it with love in our hearts for each other, for freedom, equality, justice and peace. I still find myself praying for divine intervention, worldly and/or other worldly interventions to help save us(a) and deliver us(a)  from their evil.

I’m beginning to understand that protecting my heart and soul doesn’t mean becoming indifferent. It doesn’t mean I stop caring about injustice or suddenly become okay with things that I believe are profoundly wrong. You know they are morally wrong.

It just means I don’t have to give those things first access to me.   They don’t get the first thought of the day. They don’t get the first emotion. Hate doesn’t get to determine the tone of my entire day or mood.

Hate doesn’t get to wake up before I do and consume me, love does.

In Name of Jesus, Love, and Peace,

The Happy Homo

PSS They are defunding programs that are essential for clinics that serve minorities to function. They are targeting grants that help disadvantaged minorities succeed in school and life. Call it what you want… but this is white supremacy in plain view.
